About The Event

7TH ANNUAL "Music Inspired by the Seven Climates"

Watch/Learn more about the series.

One of the most unique musical experiences in the South, Luther Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars is joined by collaborators to ignite a night of rock, funk, blues, and musical experimentation inspired by Walter Anderson’s landmark murals in the Ocean Springs Community Center.

Luther Dickinson’s annual concert series at the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, “Music Inspired by the Seven Climates,” interprets American Master Walter Inglis Anderson’s landmark murals in the Ocean Springs Community Center through collaborative rock, funk, blues, and musical experimentation.

Each year, Dickinson assembles a cast of professional musicians from across the region and country to pay homage to Walter Anderson’s coastal magnum opus, 3,000 square feet of murals c. 1951 that chronicle the dynamism of the Southern landscape. The music they perform is arranged by Dickinson, who first conceived of the concert series after having an experience with Walter Anderson’s murals. “...The phenomenon of hearing art or seeing music, I’ve never had that experience before except in this room,” says Dickinson of the Community Center. “Anderson’s murals come alive for me as an orchestral score...”

Performers include Luther Dickinson, North Mississippi Allstars, with: Big Chief Juan Pardo, The Golden Comanches; Isaac Kinchen, The Golden Comanches; Big Sam Williams, Big Sam's Funky Nation; Sharde Thomas, Rising Star Fife & Drum; Chris Mallory, Rising Star Fife & Drum;  Kirk Joseph, Dirty Dozen Brass Band;  Eddie Christmas, The New Orleans Suspects; Jake Eckert, The New Orleans Suspects;  White Tiger Lion Dance, and; Callie Miles, in her seventh year of the "Seven Climates".
